Serious Skin Care – How to Recognize It

Skin Care advice

As a practicing physician for 20 years, my professional life was focused on finding real answers to patients’ problems.

It came as a shock to me to realize that’s not really how skin care companies approach the development of their products – even the major companies.

When I decided to create a skin care product based on the tocotrienol form of vitamin E (more about that some other time), I tracked down one of the top consulting chemists in the industry. He’s something of a legend in the trade and has worked for many of the big companies you’d instantly recognize.

As we worked our way through the important ingredients I knew needed to be in the formulation, he’d ask, “How high a concentration of that ingredient do you want in it?”

My response was always, “Well, in the studies that showed it to be effective, it was at this level.

So, that’s what we’ll put in our formula. We’re serious about it.”

Finally, he said, “This is amazing. I love being able to create a product like this because so many just want Fairy Dust!”

“What’s Fairy Dust?” I asked.

“Well,” he replied. “The usual approach – and it’s taken by even the big name companies – is to choose an ingredient that’s got some hot marketing buzz going, then to put it into the skin care product with just a whiff. Just enough so that they can count it as an ingredient…nothing serious. Then, even though there’s just a Fairy Dust amount in the product, they’ll hype that ingredient in all of their advertising! That’s the way the game is played.”

Over the years, I’ve seen that game played again and again.

So, how can you recognize a serious skin care product – one without Fairy Dust? I wish there was an easy answer to that because if you’re not a formulating chemist, it can be hard to recognize.

Like so many things in life, it comes down to finding reliable, impartial advice from someone who understands the issues – certainly not from relying on marketing hype.

There are many physicians and other authors with the scientific background in skin and its care who provide reliable advice. Unless you’ve got the technical background, look to them for good advice on reliable products for your skin.

Keep in mind the difference between skin care and cosmetics. Skin care comes down to the solidity of the science behind the product, not the hype or the beautiful celebrity paid to endorse it. Make sure that you’re not being swayed by either the glamour or the Fairy Dust hype being thrown around. Skin care is something to be serious about.

Cosmetics are the place to have fun, to think more about the glamour, the color and…yes…even the hype! Explore and have fun. If you like what you see, you don’t have to worry about science, Fairy Dust or hype.

Skin Care: Choosing a facial skin care product

Skin Care advice

Talking about skin care, ‘facial skin care’ seems to top the chart. There are loads of facial skin care products available in the market. The most common facial skin care products are the ones that are used as part of daily routine. These include things like cleansers and moisturizers. Toners and exfoliation ones are well known too but not many people use them as such.

The general classification of facial skin care products is based on the following:

* Gender (so there are facial skin care products for men and there are facial skin care products for women) * Skin type (facial skin products for oily skin, facial skin care products for dry skin, facial skin care products for normal skin and facial skin care products for sensitive skin) * Age (facial skin care products for old and facial skin care products for young) * Skin disorder (i.e. facial skin care products for treatment of various skin orders like eczema, acne etc)

So that is your starting point for choosing a facial skin care product that suits you.

A good way to start is by determining your skin type first. Also note that the skin type changes with age, so the facial skin product that suits you today, might not suit you forever and hence you need to constantly evaluate the effectiveness of your facial skin care product.

The facial skin care products are available in various forms i.e. creams, lotions, gels, masks etc, and a lot of people try to pit one against the other in their discussion on which form is best. However, one can’t really rate one form as better than another form. What suits you (and whatever you are comfortable with) is the best form of facial skin care product for you, really.

However, it’s important to note that these products work differently for different people.

So the best thing is to try the facial skin care product on a small patch of skin (e.g. ear lobes) before actually going ahead and using it.

Another important consideration is the state of your skin. If you are suffering from a skin disorder of any kind, it is best to seek the advice of a dermatologist before you actually make your selection and start using a facial skin care product.

Once you have selected the facial skin care product for yourself, you also need to ensure that you use the facial skin care product in the right way i.e. follow correct procedures for application, use the correct quantity and make the facial product a part of your skin care routine.

How to Choose the Best Skin Care Products

Skin Care advice

Article by Tono Joy

If you think getting your hands on the best skin care products is easy without having inside knowledge then think again At some point each of us realizes that the routine we’ve been using since our teen years is no longer working the way we want it to. Your old skin care products don’t work like they used to and you can’t figure out why – who needs another problem? What you need is a new skin care routine. Here are a few hints that others have used to help them narrow down their choices and get back to having great skin.

The first question to ask is; what is your budget? Many of us would give our left pinky finger for glowing youthful skin but the truth is that many skin care line are to expensive for the majority of us. For those of you that are known by their first name when you walk into Sephoria then ignore my price range advice and skip to the next step. Most of us can barely afford the skin care products we see on the shelves at our local pharmacy or department store! Figure out how much you can afford to spend on skin care products each week or month and then shop with that budget in mind. Finding good products within any budget is very doable and a lot easier than you think. Were you aware that you may be using a skin product that is not suitable for your particular skin type? You’ll need to know about your skin type, but if you’re not familiar with this process then you may encounter difficulties. You’ll find that a cosmetologist or a beautician is knowledgeable about skin types, and they can provide assistance with choosing the most appropriate skin care products. Obviously these professionals are also sales people so they might try to sell you some heftily priced items that you cannot afford, but at the very least you’ll know which skin type to shop for from here on out.

Learn what makes one skin product better than another. Each ingredient does something; find out what. Once you know these things you can just look at a label and tell if a product can help you. Once you have this knowledge you can readily apply it to purchasing products that meet your goal; for breakouts you would purchase salicylic acid. A product containing this ingredient wouldn’t do you much help if you are not prone to breakouts. A person who is sensitive to the sun might want to choose a moisturizer that already contains sunscreen.

Someone whose skin is a little tougher might be better off using these products separately. There are creative ways to go about learning which skin products are best for your skin type. And some folks are luck to be able to use just about anything without problems. But there are many of us who need just a little helping hand. Be patient and dog it – in no time you’ll know what skin products work for you and which ones you want to avoid.

Ok, so you may be wondering how to figure out what kind of product you should use? Keep reading to discover some really neat little tricks to select the product that’s best for your skin.

You need to think twice before taking the big magazines advice. These suggestions are biased because your favorite magazine depends on ad revenue from Big Name Cleanser and have to talk in their favor. On the internet there are people who are very passionate about their subject. There are tons of blogs that are dedicated to reviewing skin care products and beauty items. These websites are usually independently run and the reviews are honest and original. However, with anything else you need to check their background.

Give your skin care products time to work. You’ll look in vain for that miracle product that gives results in a day, or less. You really should allow for 2-3 weeks before you can accurately state a product is a failure, or not. If, after a few weeks your skin does not look or feel cleaner or if your breakouts have increased, it is a fair bet that the product you are using is not doing its job. At that point you can move to the next product and repeat. It’s quite common to need several tries before finding something you feel is right.

Perhaps you can find a friend with the same kind of skin as you, and then ask what they use for theirs. Some people are embarrassed to admit when a skin care product fails but the truth is that the failure is usually pretty obvious. Talking to as many people as possible is also a great way to get good reviews without having to spend a lot of money. There are a lot of ways to figure out which are the best skin care products for you and your skin type. You can always find people who have no problems with their skin, and they can use almost anything. Others need a little bit more assistance. Persistence is key, so don’t give up and you’ll soon be an expert on your own skin and you’ll know what to use.

Skin Care Products – Are They All the Same?

Skin Care advice

Article by Tod Hoy

You have to look at a lot when you’re shopping for the best skin care products for you or your family. Whether it’s a moisturizer, toner, or a cleanser, you’ll need to determine your exact skin type as much as possible to get the most benefit. There’s no such thing a a one-size-fits-all skin product.

So what may work fine for one person could have disasterous effects on your skin. But how do you choose the best skin product for yourself? So then let’s talk about some cool tips and tricks to help you find what works best for you and your skin.

You need to think twice before taking the big magazines advice. The reason is simple, Big Name Cleanser pays your favorite magazine big bucks to place ads and dive them plugs in articles. Instead of trusting the ads to tell you the truth, look to your favorite bloggers and tweeters for help. There are lots of bloggers that are dedicated to giving honest reviews of skin care products. These individually ran sites main goal is to provide accurate reviews, instead of ones designed to make you buy anything In case of any suspicions, just pay their advertising policy page a visit.

It’s important to allow your products time to be effective. You’ll look in vain for that miracle product that gives results in a day, or less. Try to allow at least several weeks before passing judgement on it. If, after a few weeks your skin does not look or feel cleaner or if your breakouts have increased, it is a fair bet that the product you are using is not doing its job. Then, if you want, you’ll just try another product and do the same thing. It’s a common experience to have to try several or more skin products before settling on just one.

Is your skin type really sensitive? If you experience more than usual break-outs, you could be reacting to the chemicals found in common products, so it’s worth a try to use a cleanser with natural ingredients. Consider trying a cleanser with egg white or avocado ingredients. And olive oil is well-known for being really great for your skin, so you can give that a try. When the over the counter products prove too harsh, start searching your kitchen because you might have the perfect skin care products right in your home!

Obviously there are a number of considerations concerning your skin type and which product is best. You probably know by now that some time and testing is necessary to find what’s perfect for your skin. It is possible to have radiant and healthy skin, but it just takes some patience with the process.

It’s maddening because all lines of skin care products claim their’s is best at preventing those awful break-outs plus the ability to cleanse. Then they’ll swear to give you elasticity of a teenager and extend your youthful skin to infinity. If you pay attention to all the hype that seems to be everywhere, any sane person could become rightly confused. If every single toner or cleanser is the very best, then do any work better than others – and how do you know? How do you think you’re able to determine which skin care products work best for your skin? Is there a way to know if all you’re doing is dropping a lot of money on a way to clog your pores? Here are some hints to help you figure out which skin care products are the best skin care products for your skin type.

What is the price range of products you can afford to shop for? You may think that price isn’t a issue when it comes to your skin but some products have large price-tags attached. For those of you that are known by their first name when you walk into Sephoria then ignore my price range advice and skip to the next step. Your favorite actress might be able to afford Sephoria but most of us earthlings gawk at the price of some massed produced beauty items. Figure out how much you can afford to spend on skin care products each week or month and then shop with that budget in mind. You don’t have to give an “arm and a leg” to get quality; you will be surprised at the number of exceptional products that are available at a fraction of the cost of the high-end names, and work just as well.

Learn what you truly need in your skin care routine. It’s possible you need not only a cleanser but also a moisturizer and toner. Some common reactions include experiencing break-outs when toners are used, or feeling itchy and heavy with a moisturizer. There are even some lucky few who only have to use a good cleanser. Of course there are many cases when all three skin products are needed, and perhaps even a specialized product for troublesome areas. If you have break-outs, then you can try a quality cleanser plus some spot treatment in the evening.

Learn why a particular skin product can harm you. Take a look at the function of each ingredient in a skin care line. Knowing the functions of ingredients is a major step in your search for your ideal skin product. Then you will be able to purchase something containing salicylic acid without having to search for help. For people who don’t breakout then salicylic acid would not be necessary. On the same lines, you would pick a product that has sunscreen if you are susceptible to sunburn.

Someone whose skin is a little tougher might be better off using these products separately. It is more easier now than ever before to get your hands on the best skin care products without having to test everything in the store. Remember, if you actually apply what was presented in this article then you will be ahead of the pack and effortlessly find the best skin care product for your needs.

Skin Care advice

Article by Tono Joy

Figuring out which products are the best skin care products for you and your skin can be tricky. Your skin is different, and you have to consider this when choosing various products such as toners, moisturizers, or cleansers. It’s for that reason that you won’t find any one product that works for everyone’s skin.

That’s why sometimes if you borrow another person’s product it may cause a negative reaction from your skin type. But how do you choose the best skin product for yourself? So then let’s talk about some cool tips and tricks to help you find what works best for you and your skin.

How much money can you afford to spend? Many of us would give our left pinky finger for glowing youthful skin but the truth is that many skin care line are to expensive for the majority of us. For those of you that are known by their first name when you walk into Sephoria then ignore my price range advice and skip to the next step. Most of us hesitate to buy the “normal” skin care products because the price seems too high. Shopping foe skin care products becomes much simpler when we know how much we can spend and what we can afford. The good news is that there are so many different (and quality!) products available that you should be able to find some great items in whatever price range you need to stick with. It’s quite possible that your problems are due to using a product that is not best for your type of skin. If you’re not knowledgeable about skin types, then figuring out your own skin type could be a little challenging. Consulting with a beautician or cosmetologist can be very helpful because they’ll figure out your skin type and then make good suggestions for products to use. But they’re also sales people, so be prepared to hear a sales pitch for most likely expensive products, however at least you’ll have the knowledge about your skin.

Don’t let yourself get too caught up in the hype. A product with little marketing can actually be better than one with a huge marketing campaign behind it. Some products don’t need marketing at all because they work so well that word of mouth is all they need to stay popular. That is one very good reason why you keep have an open mind and try products you’ve never seen before in advertising. You have to admit that you really never know if something like that will be the best thing to ever hit your face. Think about it, if those other products with the huge marketing campaigns worked so well, why would it be necessary to spend so much getting your attention? You can learn about skin products and your skin in different ways that are easy. Of course there are some who can use anything on their face and it works fine. Then there are so many others who require a little more support. Persistence is key, so don’t give up and you’ll soon be an expert on your own skin and you’ll know what to use.

Caring and Feeding Your Allergic Dog

Skin Care advice

How many times have you seen your pup scratching, licking, biting, and not knowing what on earth is their problem?  Well, it is a very common problem in many dogs and trying to figure out a solution is not as easy.  All we know is that they are so uncomfortable, as you can imagine, if you have ever suffered irritations and allergies, yet they cannot relate to us how they feel.

Needless to say, there are all types of allergies so pinpointing the problem is always the first step in trying to help your pooch.  It can be quite costly to get an allergy test though that is the foolproof way to get an exact diagnosis.  The most common allergies that pets seem to attract are food allergies and skin allergies.    You can try your own resolutions by first starting with a good food to minimize chances of attracting any allergies.  There are so many additives and ingredients in dog foods that they do not need which do more harm than good.  Talk with your Vet, speak with specialist at the pet stores, and read labels.  I have found that the sections of pet foods that are natural and holistic are your best choices.     Common food triggers for allergies are dairy, corn, wheat, chicken, beef, and other empty carbohydrates and additives (chemicals).  Your pup obviously still needs to have a balanced diet so reading labels is so important (as it is for us).    Look for foods with a 40% ratio of meat such as turkey and fish, 50% ratio of veggies and 10% carbohydrates, avoiding all animal by-products, preservatives such as BHT, BHA, and other harmful chemicals.  That is why it is imperative that you check into premium and holistic dog foods which contain only 100% natural and nutritious human-grade ingredients, which is the safest natural dog food for allergies.

What else can you do for your canine family member to avoid triggers for allergies?  You may want to try supplementing their diets with nutritional supplements that can help their immune systems ward off allergies.  Try a vitamin enhancement that could contain such things as omega 3 fatty acids, vitamins A, C and E, and minerals such as Selenium.  Not only can these supplements help with allergies, they can also help with decreasing inflammation, pain and itching.

To help relieve your pet from itching and topical type allergies it is suggested that you give your pet a nice cool bath.  Water is known to be the best relief and it is amazing how much good this one element is to all.  Find good colloidal oatmeal, Epsom salt or medicated type shampoo and follow directions to provide the best relief and remedy for your dog.

In more serious situations you may need to provide your dog with shots and/or medications per the advice of your Vet but I would try correcting the diet first as most problems start from within.    You check the k9web.com for further information as well as other informative sites on this information since we as caring and responsible owners what is best for our pets.  We love them dearly and it breaks our hearts and when they are suffering, they cannot communicate their feelings to us and depend on us to know all the signs to keep them safe, healthy and happy.
